What Are Stefan Darts?
Fellow Nerfers! Stefans are a home-made foam Nerf dart, invented by Canadian Nerfer Stefan Mohr. It’s bulk consists of a type of industrial foam called FBR (foam backing rod), originally used as a backing for sealant. The rest of the dart is made of a weight, usually a fishing weight or BB, and a dome of hot-glue. The process involves cutting the rod into length, drying, burning, weighting and gluing. They are used with modified and homemade blasters, as they are tailored to specific barrels. If made well, they perform better than stock darts. They are extremely inexpensive as they use hardware-store foam. Some maintain darts need a hole to "trap" air, but this lowers pressure behind the dart. The best darts go the farthest, regardless of air pockets. The word "stefan" refers to short customized darts, optimizing balance and allowing use in certain clips. Full lengths are called customized darts instead. To remove string after gluing, spin the hot glue gun until the string disconnects. Then let darts dry and enjoy your creation!
