You were called for a reason. Don’t be desperate to book the job. Desperation makes you seem like you don’t get work. Don’t make excuses for being late. What color to not wear? Avoid red, white, black on camera. White creates a green shadow, glares. Beyond looks, they want an actor who fits the character in personality. They look for someone who makes it easy to hire. Decline with grace and respect. Respond timely, "Thank you, but I don’t respond to the material." Know why you say no. Prepare material for roles you want. Expect the unexpected, be ready to improvise. Don’t complain. Cultivate life not focused on that. Check impulses. Use yourself reacting remarkably. Trust yourself with truth and imagination. Break down a scene specifically. Good acting is seamless transformation.
What Not to Do at a Play Audition
Do not offer two serious songs, or two funny songs, or two pop songs, or two songs by the same composer. Do keep your selections to 32 bars. Do choose songs that show off your voice to its best advantage.
