Can Lizardfolk Regrow Tails?

Lizard Regeneration

Lizards can regrow severed tails. The replacement tail is an imperfect cartilage tube, not the original tail with a spinal column and nerves.

It takes about nine weeks for a lizard to regrow their tail. For the first three weeks, the tail is a dark stump of lymph vessels. After six weeks, the whole tail shape has been regenerated.

Lizardfolk Traits

The biggest lizardfolk traits are a reptilian head, scaly skin, a long tail, and about the size of humans. They are usually green but can be other colors.

Lizardfolk have an ancient, mystical culture. Scale colors vary from bright blue to yellows, greens, and dusky browns.

Regrowth Abilities

Lizardfolk cannot naturally regrow horns. Some lizardfolk tribes have magic to regenerate limbs. Severed hands and feet regrow after three days, severed limbs after one week if the severed part is present. Lizardfolk feel neutral towards Dragonborn.

When attacked, lizards can detach their tail to distract predators while escaping. Tails regrow but with nerve damage they can’t regrow. Most lizards can regrow tails several times but eventually reach an upper limit.

An alligator can only regrow its tail over 18 months, not limbs. Lizardfolk are oviparous, laying eggs in grass nests. Axolotls regenerate muscles better than alligators. Female lizardfolk have a special receptive mating time of year.
