Model Height
Models are typically much taller than average people. Female fashion models are usually at least 5’9” tall. Model waist size tends to be 10 inches smaller than the chest and hips. Male fashion models are usually 6′ to 6’5,” with a lean and muscular physique.
However, there are exceptions. Petite models, typically under 5’5”, model clothes for shorter women. Tall models over 6’0” may be sought for their long legs and presence.
The minimum height varies. High fashion and runway modeling require tall models, 5’9”-6’0” or more. But other types of modeling have flexible height requirements.
Opportunities for Shorter Models
You can still model even if under 5’9". While tall models dominate high fashion, there are other opportunities for shorter models.
Modeling Beyond Height
At 5’7”, you may be too short for high fashion. But other opportunities exist. For editorial modeling, the right look matters more than height or a slender frame. For promotional modeling, an engaging personality and spokesperson skills are key.
While height matters for high fashion, a modeling career is possible even if you don’t meet the strictest height requirements. With the right look and skills, models of many heights find success.
