Betty White’s Support for Animal Charities
Betty White supported animal charities such as “Actors and Others for Animals” and the Morris Animal Foundation. She served as a trustee of the latter since 1971. White worked with the Morris Animal Foundation, which funds “health studies for dogs, cats, lizards and wildlife.” As a president emeritus, she saw the organization through much of its breakthrough work. The Los Angeles Zoo received over $70K in donations from the BettyWhiteChallenge. White served on the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association’s board starting in 1974. In 2010, she became chair. After White’s passing, the Betty White Challenge encouraged fans to donate $5 to an animal charity in honor of White’s birthday. According to Meta, more than 390,000 people had donated to the challenge by January 21.

White regularly used her fame to support animal charities. When White died, the #BettyWhiteChallenge encouraged donations to animal shelters in her honor. One Twitter user, Lisa Powell, suggested people should donate to local animal shelters on January 17 for White’s birthday. White’s "Hot in Cleveland" co-star said when people approached White, she’d often redirect the conversation to ask about their pets.
