For proper drainage, slope gutters at least a quarter inch per 10 feet. DIY installation allows financial, timetable, and design flexibility. You can eliminate labor costs and work on your own time.
Benefits of Seamless Gutters
Seamless gutters minimize leaks and debris clogs better than sectional systems. They require mathematics to properly space brackets on a half-round or radius gutter. Basic steps are: Set pitch, attach brackets, cut holes, hang gutter, install endcaps and downspouts.
Choosing Gutter Size
For small roofs, 5-inch gutters suffice. For larger roofs, use 6-inch gutters.
In rainfall areas, gutters are necessary. Seamless vinyl gutters cost $3 to $6 per foot installed. While cheaper than other gutters, they won’t last as long.
Leaky, overflowing gutters can damage basement walls quickly. Seamless aluminum gutters look nice but are expensive. Do-it-yourself components are more affordable.
Properly sized gutters, typically 5 or 6 inches measured across the top, prevent overflowing and temporarily store water during heavy rains.
