Google’s Investment in Alabama
Google is starting construction on our newest data center in Jackson County, Alabama. The new $600 million site marks an investment for our company and will bring up to 100 high-skilled jobs to the community. We chose Jackson County to repurpose the decommissioned Widows Creek Power Plant. Like nearly all our data centers, the facility in Bridgeport will be 100% powered by renewable energy at no efficiency cost. Since 2016, we’ve awarded over $600,000 to local Alabama schools and nonprofits, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Google’s Growth Strategy
The data center is part of Google’s long-term growth strategy, being its 14th location worldwide. As one of the world’s most innovative technology companies, Google’s products touch billions daily. We’re proud that Alabama plays an important role in Google’s future growth with its first large-scale data center, which will create 75-100 highly technical jobs with potential for more. When searching for the next location, we’re glad Google found Alabama.
