Equipment Required for Distilling Alcohol
- Still
- Heat source
- Collection vessel
Process of Distilling Alcohol
First, create a fermented mash with ingredients like grain, yeast, and sugar. Allow to ferment. Then, set up the still, connecting it properly to the heat source, condenser, and collection vessel. Turn on the heat to slowly boil the mash, allowing steam through the condenser to cool and condense back into liquid alcohol that drips into the collection vessel.
Air Still Features
An air still has an underfloor heating coil not in the liquid. It also has an air-cooled condenser coil and automatic shutoff if dry.
Distilling Homemade Alcohol
Distilling homemade alcohol requires key equipment: a still, a heat source, and a collection vessel.
While distilling spirits at home may be illegal, this equipment allows small-batch production. Copper or stainless steel stills impart flavor. Distilling alcohol is complex and potentially dangerous.
