ASE Certification Overview
ASE has offered certification tests since 1972. Today, we offer much more than just certification tests. To achieve ASE Master Automobile Technician status, you must achieve certification in all tests A1 through A8 in the Automobile & Light Truck, A Series.
ASE Certification Process
In order to attain ASE Certification, technicians must complete 2 years of qualified work experience and pass a test for each certification. ASE Entry-Level certification tests indicate readiness for the workforce in candidates seeking a career in the industry.
ASE Certifications and Requirements
ASE certification is granted to professionals with 2+ years of work experience who passed the test. Certification provides an insignia, ID card and framed certificate displaying trustworthiness to customers.
How many ASE tests are there?
ASE has offered certification tests since 1972. Today, we offer much more than just certification tests. To achieve ASE Master Automobile Technician status, you must achieve certification in all tests A1 through A8 in the Automobile & Light Truck series.
There are 52 ASE certification tests covering almost every aspect of the industry.
ASE tests have 40-75 scored multiple-choice questions. Some tests have up to ten non-scored questions for research only.
The 8 areas needed to pass to become an ASE Master Technician are: Engine Repair, Automatic Trans/Transaxle. ASE advanced certification (L1, L2, L3) is offered after earning the professional certification. For instance, A8 certification is required to register for the L1 test.
Master technicians need a high school diploma, though an associate’s degree may be beneficial. They need all eight ASE certifications and technician experience since that is required for certification.
You must present valid ID in original form with your photo and signature. The name on your ASE record must match your ID.
ASE provides study guides with sample questions and preparation suggestions. Practice tests cover actual topics with fully explained answers. Motor Age’s guide and practice test provides necessary knowledge to pass the A8 test.
