Requesting an S Corp Verification Letter
To request an S corp verification letter, contact the IRS’ Business & Specialty Tax Line at 1-800-829-4933. It’s open from Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. taxpayer local time. Have your Employer Identification Number (EIN) available. You should receive your 385C letter within 14 days. You can also request a copy of your Form 2553 this way.
Checking S Corp Acceptance Status
To check your S corp status, contact the IRS at (800) 829-4933 if you have not heard back after properly submitting your S corporation form. They will inform you of your application status.
Getting Proof of S Corp Acceptance
If you’ve lost your S-Corporation Approval Letter, known as the CP261 Notice, you cannot request another copy of it. However, you can request an S-Corp Verification Letter, or 385C, by calling the IRS at 1-800-829-4933. It’s difficult to get through, but you can reach a live person at the IRS with less time on hold. Call the IRS at 1-800-829-4933 to request an S-Corp Verification Letter.
It is a good idea to send Form 2553 by certified mail with return receipt for proof it was sent. Keep records of what you send to and receive from the IRS to correct issues quicker.
