Boat Insurance Information
- Boat insurance does not require you to name each individual person who is going to operate the boat.
- Your boat insurance covers any damage caused by your boat.
- Basic boat insurance protections include: damage to others’ property, fixing your boat after an accident, coverage for injuries to others, and protection for your boat against damage.
Boat Insurance Laws
In Arkansas, all motorboats powered by engines of more than 50 horsepower, and all personal watercrafts, must be covered by a liability insurance policy.
Coverage Considerations
- Boat insurance will cover engine damage or cracked engine block only if the damage is not related to normal wear or tear due to lack of maintenance.
- Your boat insurance may cover other drivers as long as the driver has your consent to drive your vessel, but some limitations apply.
Lending Your Boat
- You won’t have to worry about paying for your boat repairs out of savings if you have an accident and the other boat is completely uninsured.
- Make sure the operator is over 18 years old and has a boating license.
Solo Yacht Piloting
If you’re an experienced captain who regularly pilots large yachts, a solo trip is entirely possible.
