Pumpkin Season
Pumpkin season begins mid-September, lasting throughout October and November. Different pumpkin varieties have different harvest times. Gardeners should research varieties they are planting to know when pumpkins will likely be ready for harvest.
Harvest and Storage Tips
In October and November, pumpkins and sweet potatoes are highlighted. Pumpkins last months after the season with the right conditions. Leftover pumpkin can be pureed for baked goods and soup or seeds roasted for snacks. Pumpkins also make natural fall decorations.
Fruits in Season
The best fruits now are grapes, apples, pears, oranges, and bananas. Prices drop on out-of-season fruits as they become more available. Mangoes are also currently in season, originating from India over 5,000 years ago.
Pumpkin Purchase and Storage
Pumpkins are best bought September through November. Whole pumpkins store for months in a cool, dry place. Cut pumpkins keep wrapped in the fridge for five days. After carving, they last three to five days, up to two weeks in colder climates.
