Recycling or Proper Disposal of Helium Tanks
Recycling metal helium tanks avoids them ending up in landfills. Gather proper information before disposing of tanks as instructions vary by location. Turn the tank valve counter-clockwise releasing all gas. Then take tanks to a recycling center. Discarding tanks improperly harms the environment as metal tanks take 200 years to decompose.
Refillable vs. Disposable Helium Tanks
If you have a refillable tank, you can take it to a welding or gas supplier to request a refill. Disposable helium tanks are just meant to be used once, and after using all the helium you have to throw them away. Bring your empty helium cylinder to a well-ventilated area, bending the tilt nozzle to release any remaining helium.
Renting Refillable Helium Tanks
Renting refillable helium tanks is cheaper long-term than buying disposable ones. If having over 50 small or 27 large balloons, renting is the best choice, and better for the environment. Store tanks up to one year after initial use as long as the green valve is tightly closed.
