Statewide Mask Mandates in Connecticut
Ned Lamont ordered that all individuals in the state must wear a mask or face covering if they come within 6 feet of a non-household member, and when using public transportation. The mandate was limited only to indoor areas. On Feb. 28, 2022, the mask mandate was lifted altogether.
Several Connecticut cities and towns require face masks in local government buildings because of COVID-19. Gov. Ned Lamont signed an executive order that allows municipal leaders to enact mask mandates for both vaccinated and unvaccinated people while inside public places.
Despite a judge striking down the federal mask mandate for public transit, masks will still be required on trains and buses in Connecticut, according to the state Department of Transportation. But passengers are no longer mandated to wear masks at the state’s airports.
CDC Guidelines and Outdoor Mask Usage
The CDC is giving fully vaccinated adults the green light to exercise outside, attend small outdoor gatherings — even with unvaccinated people — and dine outdoors with other households, all without a mask. For unvaccinated Americans, masks are still recommended if you are outside with other unvaccinated people or dining outdoors with other households. And, all Americans should still wear masks at crowded outdoor concerts, parades, and sporting events. The CDC said that data shows that less than 10% of transmission of the virus happens outdoors.
UConn Mask Policies
This protocol requires everyone in UConn Health facilities to wear an approved mask absent a medical reason. Gaiters, bandanas and masks with exhalation valves will not be accepted. UConn requires masks inside buildings and buses regardless of vaccination status, through at least Aug. 15. Rules at K-12 schools allow outdoor mask breaks. Carry a mask in case you are asked to wear it in close settings like meetings.
UConn still requires masks in classes, labs, studios, and clinics through April 1. The university recommends wearing masks on campuses. It encourages flexibility and courtesy about masking.
UConn brought back mandatory indoor masking due to a slight increase in COVID-19 cases. Until May 7, masks are required for instructional settings, workspaces, and events over 100 people for students and staff.
UConn announced students living on campus must return two weeks before Aug. 31 classes to allow for testing and quarantine. Classes will be online and in-person, with masks required in public and common spaces. Residence halls will have reduced capacity for social distancing.
Mask Distribution and International Measures
Yukon requires masks in indoor public spaces to prevent spreading droplets when sneezing, coughing or speaking. People who refuse could be fined up to $500. Settings include shopping centres, stores, banks, entertainment and hospitality venues, indoor attractions, and places of worship.
Singapore residents with government IDs can collect one free mask each. Masks are available for those with valid CHAS cards or public assistance cards.
