An Amtrak sleeper car contains restrooms, shower rooms and sleeping accommodations. Only overnight and long-distance trains have sleeper cars. They contain roomettes and bedrooms. Meals, free coffee and water are included.
Types of Sleeper Cars
There are two types of sleeper cars: Superliner (two-level) and Viewliner (one-level). Viewliner roomettes and bedrooms have toilets, sinks and higher ceilings. Roomettes fit two passengers with two reclining chairs converted into sleeping accommodation. Bedrooms accommodate up to 3 passengers with a couch transformed into a bed and an additional private bed.
Sleeper car passengers have access to showers located on the lower level of Superliner cars and down the hall of Viewliner cars. Amtrak provides items and a room attendant keeps the shower clean.
Prices for Chicago to Seattle sleeper cars start at $446 per person. Seasonal deals provide lower rates.
Specialty Rooms

Family Bedroom: Runs the width of a sleeper car. It has room for 2 adults and 2 children with two upper and two lower berths. There is access to a shower and bathroom. A dedicated attendant provides service. Meals and lounge access are included.

Accessible Bedroom: Big enough for a wheelchair. A ramp allows boarding and exiting the train. The attendant assists.
Private Rooms offer privacy, space and comfort when traveling overnight. Amenities include meals, lounge access and priority boarding.
Passengers can bring food and beverages for consumption in seats or private accommodations. They can only consume Amtrak food and beverages in Dining and Lounge cars.
