A private room is the perfect option for customers seeking privacy and space on a short trip. The average Amtrak seat measures 23 inches in width with exceptional legroom. Getting a sleeper car is worth it as you’ll be getting free meals and bags included. When you add up the cost savings of a hotel in addition to the other benefits, the Amtrak sleeper car is a good value. Customers in Sleeping Cars enjoy complimentary meals throughout their journey. Coach class customers purchase meals in the Dining Car.
A Superliner Bedroom is designed for two people, it has an upper and lower bunk (berth). The roomette offers minimal room for carry-on luggage. Aside from extra space and a bigger bed, the best thing about having an Amtrak Superliner Bedroom is your own private bathroom with shower. Try to time your shower to when the train is going slower, or pulled over while waiting for a freight train to pass.
The Viewliner accessible bedroom has a shower along with a toilet and sink. Bedrooms are larger than roomettes and include a sink, toilet and small shower. Up to three people can stay in a bedroom. Bedroom suites are two bedrooms with the wall removed creating a larger space with two bathrooms.
For a limited time, a trip in the comfort of a private room starts at just $99 each way, plus vehicle cost.
Amtrak Sleeper Accommodations
What is included with an Amtrak bedroom?
The Amtrak Superliner Bedroom comes with a sofa that becomes a bed, an upper bunk that folds down, a sink, mirror, closet, shower, and toilet. Part of your reservation includes coffee in the morning, meals, a sleeping car attendant, and more.
An Amtrak Bedroom fits one to two people comfortably or three less spaciously with two sharing the lower bunk. It has more space and privacy than a Roomette. Accessible Bedrooms are available if needed.
Bedrooms have two bunk beds, two chairs, and two bathrooms. Up to six people can stay in a Bedroom Suite.
A Roomette offers privacy and space for two people with seats converting to beds.
Sleeper car prices start at $99 each way. They include free meals and carry-on bags. Scheduling your shower when the train moves slower gets the best water pressure.
Value of Amtrak Rooms
Is an Amtrak room worth it?
Sleeper cars can run 3-4X+ the standard admission. In my opinion, sleeper cars make the ride into a pleasure. Yes, Amtrak roomettes are worth it. They offer comfort, privacy, meals included, amenities access.
Family Room fits two adults and two children comfortably. Roomette is the smallest accommodation, comfortable for one and cozy for two. Roomettes have chairs that fold into a bed and an upper pull-down bed.
Family bedrooms are cozy for a family of four and come with bunk beds, a sofa, and reclining seats. Wet naps for wiping down the seat and yourself. Worth it is subjective. We prefer bedrooms for maximum luggage space and close bathroom trip. Two or three people share a bathroom for each sleeper in a superliner roomette.
A roomette is a great way to see the country through a private room with free meals and bags. One often needs a car almost at any US destination or hire one upon arrival. For the price, many would travel in a roomette again with comfortable seats, quiet cabin, and ample meals.
