Preparation
Clean Out the Garage. Before you turn your garage into a spook-tacular experience, you must organize and completely clean the space. The more stuff you organize and move, the more room you’ll have to work with for the haunted house.
Setting the Scene

Set the Tone With Black Lights. Black lights are available as compact fluorescents, and you can use them to replace the ceiling lights in the garage (but not in the garage door opener, which requires a special bulb). The lights cast an eerie glow perfect for haunted houses.

Create Blind Corners. Use sheets to make the garage dark and create a series of compartmentalized rooms.

Eliminate Sunlight. If you have windows in your garage, you can block the light by painting the windows black using a water-based latex.
Decoration

Secure Monsters From the Ceiling. Dangling some witches, ghouls, or monsters from the ceiling gives the garage an authentic haunted house feel. But make sure your props are securely held in place.

Fill the Garage With Fog. To make the garage progressively darker and create a compartmentalized setup, hang sheets down from the rafters.

Make a list of what you need and try to find as much as you can before heading off to the Halloween, grocery, or hardware store.

Get Creative With New Technologies. Set your garage apart by incorporating new and fun technology in your haunted house.

Dust Off The Cobwebs. Safety comes first. Remove any cars, machines, bikes, or anything that may get in the way and cause an accident while someone is walking through the haunted house.

Scare Up the Exterior, Too. Don’t forget to decorate the outside of the garage to entice visitors.
