Most modern plows have a float mode allowing the plow to move over uneven terrain. Double-tap the down button to put the blade into float mode. If your plow lacks a float mode, press the down button until the plow touches the ground.
Snow Plowing Regulations and Techniques
While some don’t plow until 6 inches of snow, your city or HOA may require plowing at lower thresholds. Plow shoes raise the blade to prevent a bulldozing effect and instead allow it to float over surfaces like gravel, dirt or grass.
Power and Controls
Test power to the control box by checking voltage between the black wire and ground at the white 9-pin connector. If no voltage is present, power from the fuse box has disconnected.
Plow Shoes Adjustment
Plow shoes control how much contact the cutting edge of the plow has with the surface being plowed. When plowing solid, level areas, such as parking lots, roads, or driveways, plow shoes should be raised to increase contact. When plowing loose or uneven surfaces, such as dirt, gravel, or grass, plow shoes should be lowered.
SmartTouch 2 Specifics
With the SmartTouch 2, in the specs it says it has automatic float. What does that mean? If you tap down, does the plow drop all the way down regardless of how long you push the button for? And to get it to skim, (like plowing over gravel), do you short tap the button up? Or can you control the plow drop and stop it where you want to?
