Does My Maytag Washer Have a Coin Trap? Coin Trap and Filter Locations

Coin Trap

Top-loading washers with an agitator usually have a coin trap, located either inside near the agitator or underneath the lid. However, front-loading washers typically do not have a coin trap. Instead, they may have coin trays and a metal mesh lint filter to catch items like coins.

The cover may be removable, revealing a lint trap inside. A small mesh screen may also be fitted onto the drainage hose end to catch debris.

Maintenance Procedures

To manually drain a Maytag washer, pull it from the wall, turn off power and water, scoop out remaining water in the drum, unhook the drain hose, and empty water into a bucket.

If the washer won’t drain or spin, check the drain hose or pump for obstructions, or consider that the pump may be broken.

Coin Trap Details

To check for a coin trap, look for a panel held in place by screws, which can be unscrewed to access the internal components. If there is a coin trap, you should see a cylindrical or rectangular container beneath the panel with a mesh filter.

Filters and Lint Traps

Maytag washers have filters that should be cleaned every 3-6 months. In top-loading Maytag washers, the filter is located in the agitator tube center. For front loaders, check underneath or behind the dispenser drawer.

To clean the filter, refer to the user manual for specific instructions. Remove lint clumps by hand and clean with warm water. Some filters are visible outside, like on water hose connectors, while others are behind panels or built into the drum.

To reset a Maytag washer, disconnect power for three minutes. If the washer does not start, check the outlet with another appliance.

For front load washers, the filter is usually behind the dispenser drawer on the front base. Always unplug the unit for safety before attempting to check the filter.
