Boilermaker Test Overview
Use the test to assess technical knowledge of boilers, maintenance, piping, welding, math, burning, and fabricating. Boilermakers use hand and power tools or flame cutting torches to cut pieces for a boiler. To bend the pieces into shape and accurately line them up, boilermakers use plumb bobs, levels, wedges, and turnbuckles.
Boilermaker Certification Program
Boilermaker certification recognizes competence in installation, maintenance, and repair of boilers through an apprenticeship program. It assesses piping, plumbing, boilers, basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry, word problems, and conversions.
Becoming a Journeyman Boilermaker
To become a journeyman boilermaker, complete 6000 hours of on-the-job training over four years. Boilermakers build, repair, erect, test and maintain boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, and perform structural and plate work on containers. They install boilers, work on scaffolds, repair and maintain existing boilers and related metal products, measure, cut, and connect piping using welding and brazing equipment.

Project Challenges and Test Details
The most challenging project was building a new structure resembling an old factory. It took time to figure out the materials to recreate the look, but the result was great.
