In Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, the classic Career Mode has been revamped in the form of Tours. Tours allow you to skate Parks to complete Goals or earn Medals while racking up Stat Points and picking up Collectibles. There are two types of Parks: Goal-Based Parks where you must complete Goals; Competition Parks where you must earn Medals. Fully completing each Tour unlocks secret Parks and rewards.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 combines sharp visuals with great controls. It lacks a story mode but has a single-player campaign instead. Career Mode lets you select a pro rider to guide through courses, fulfilling objectives to progress. You earn money to unlock later levels and accumulate medals in competitions for certain levels. Money accumulates toward total career earnings.
Revival with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 8 (THP8)
THP8 revives the Tony Hawk series. The Career mode incorporates Classic goals, Overworld goals, and sandbox feel for great gameplay. Controls are tight, graphics better than ever, and customization well executed. The game looks, feels, and plays extremely well.
In Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, released as Tony Hawk’s Skateboarding in some regions, the player, as Tony Hawk, must complete five objectives represented by videotapes in each level within two minutes.
Epic Games Store Exclusive & Franchise History
The original birdman Tony Hawk and Vicarious Visions remastered Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2, on PC exclusively in the Epic Games Store.
Currently, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is an Epic Games Store “exclusive” on PC, with no Activision word on other platforms like Steam. Don’t let that stop you from playing this masterpiece.
With an estimated 1.4 billion copies sold, the series petered out in later years. 2015’s widely panned Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 killed the franchise.
Campaign and Story Mode
Story mode in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 is not available yet. Instead, the single-player campaign takes you to various locales where you complete challenges to advance. Or, you can Free Skate at any level to skip objectives and continue progressing. The game allows completing challenges while having fun. The story mode is optional and can be started only after completing the intense campaign. Play as famous skaters and earn rewards.
THPS5 had a very rushed development. Activision pushed the release before losing the Tony Hawk name license rights, accounting for the game’s poor reception. So rushed was the development that most of the game was in a 7.7 GB day one patch, while the actual disc was only 4 GB. It was released on September 29, 2015.
