Banks and Roll of Quarters
The first place to exchange dollar bills for quarters is the bank. Banks have “quarter rolls” – rolls of 40 quarters worth $10. For an entire roll, bring $10 cash. You can ask for less. If you are a customer, the bank should honor your request.
You may exchange cash for quarters at banks where you don’t have an account, but they may decline.
To order quarters from your bank, go to the teller and ask to exchange $10 cash for a roll of quarters. Banks order coins weekly based on demand.
Retail Outlets and Fast Food Chains
Most fast food chains can give some quarters when you make a purchase. The cashier can’t give a whole roll.
Chains and local banks or credit unions may exchange coins via coin-counting machines. QuikTrip and Safeway may exchange coins for cash too.
Other Sources for Quarters
Gas stations attached to vending machines or children’s rides may provide quarters, as attendants want coins on hand.
Ask friends or family as a last resort. They may have spare change or quarters.
