AP Exam Guidelines
- An individual may not proctor an AP Exam if a family or household member is taking that exam.
- Teachers may serve as proctors for exams in subjects they don’t teach.
- Proctors help distribute or collect materials, time exams, ensure security.
- Proctoring digital exams differs from paper exams.

Registration and Exam Information
- Anyone in high school can register for AP exams with ID. It’s recommended that academically ready students take them.
- Register through your AP coordinator.
- AP exams have multiple-choice and free-response sections.
- Scores range 1-5.
- Arrive 30 minutes early on exam day.
- After checking in, the proctor gives instructions before students begin.
Proctoring Details and Exam Retake
- Relatives, coworkers, or anyone with a relationship to the student cannot proctor.
- Students may consider retaking an exam after additional accommodations become available.
- AP scores qualify students for college credit and influence admissions decisions. Most selective colleges consider them.
Payment and Other Details
- Proctors typically earn $9-$25 per hour working for testing companies.
- No equipment is needed since proctors work off-site.
- Students with financial need can get fee reductions from their coordinator.
