Minnesota
In Minnesota, a registered agent is required when forming an LLC, corporation, LLP, or LP. The agent’s details are included in the entity formation documents. To become a Minnesota registered agent, you must:
- Reside in Minnesota or be a corporation/LLC with authorization to do business there
- Have a physical address in Minnesota to accept service of process during business hours
As the owner, you can be your own registered agent, listing your name and address on the LLC formation documents. However, this would make your personal address public. Most states require a physical street address, not a P.O. box.
Professional Services vs. Self-Representation
You can serve as your own registered agent, but non-residents will need a Minnesota resident as their registered agent. Consider public disclosure and the requirement to be available during normal business hours before deciding. Using a professional service may better suit your needs.
