Can I Take a Proctoru Test on My Bed? Exam Setup and Conduct

Exam Environment

Exams must be taken from a hard surface (e.g. desk or table, not a bed). Before your start time, remove anything that is not permanently affixed or approved for your exam. ProctorU will not permit testing from a couch, bed, or the floor. If possible, place your back to the door and cover up any non-covered windows.

ProctorU Process

What happens if you are late to a ProctorU exam? Being late to a ProctorU exam may result in a shortened exam time or the need to reschedule.

Looking off-screen or utilizing materials that are not allowed is prohibited. Your eyes should stay on the screen at all times while testing if you aren’t allowed any materials. Taking pictures or screenshots of the exam is not permitted.

ID Requirements

  • A government-issued ID will be required during check-in. Your ID must:
    • Be government issued (driver’s license, passport)
    • Have a clear photo that matches the test taker
    • Be non-expired

Before the Exam

Login to your account at ProctorU, choose the correct exam, and ensure the ProctorU extension is enabled. Once you have been connected with your proctor, they will ask you to perform various checks to ensure that your testing space meets their requirements.

Camera Pan

Your proctor will ask you to show the four walls of your room and your desk space via your webcam. You may also be asked to show your computer monitor using a mirror or cellphone camera. After this, your proctor will make sure your cell phone is out of reach.

Navigating to the Exam & Password Entry

Your proctor will unlock your exam after directing you to the appropriate online platform.

Proctored Exam Considerations

Proctored exams are timed exams monitored by proctoring software that records your computer’s desktop, webcam video, and audio. Your entire test session will be recorded by ProctorU and monitored by a human proctor.

Guardian Secure Proctoring Browser

The Guardian browser is now required for all ProctorU test-takers. It monitors the student’s computer for potential breaches during the exam. Test takers will download the browser as part of their exam preparation and can remove the software when not in use.
