Registered Agent Requirements:
- A registered agent (RA) is a person or company that accepts legal documents for a business.
- States require a physical address for the registered agent, so using a P.O. Box is not recommended.
- Alternatives to consider: commercial registered agent services, virtual office space, mailbox rental services, and asking a business lawyer.
Using a P.O. Box:
- You can use a P.O. Box as your mailing address, but not as the physical address for the registered agent.
- Businesses using a P.O. Box will need to hire a registered agent or use their attorney’s address.
- Since all states mandate a physical address for the registered agent, a P.O. Box is not suitable.
Limitations and Changes:
- Companies must have an ‘appropriate address’ as their registered office starting from March 2024.
- Using P.O. Boxes for the registered office address will no longer be allowed.
Using a P.O. Box in Texas for LLC Registration:
- Alternatives to a P.O. Box include: commercial registered agent services, virtual office space, mailbox rental services, and a business lawyer.
- Ensure that the business has a physical address as required by states for the registered agent.
