If you’ve registered a domain elsewhere, you can use it with your Wix website. You can either connect your domain to Wix or transfer your domain to Wix.
Connecting or Transferring Your Domain
Connecting your domain means that it remains registered with your current registrar but points to your Wix site. Transferring a domain makes Wix your new domain host. In your Wix account admin panel, click Add Domain. Enter the domain you want to transfer and select: I want to transfer my domain from another registrar.
Enter the authorization code from your current registrar. Review the information and click Transfer Domain. Enter your contact information and click Continue. Wix’s domain prices are slightly higher than other registrars after the first year. Hosting your domain with another provider will save money long-term. Managing Domains within Wix
You can connect a domain to your Wix site while keeping it registered with your current host. This requires some DNS changes. Your registrar can help with these.
To link your domain, go to Domains in your Wix account. Click Connect a domain you already own. Select the site to connect the domain to. Enter the domain name. Click DNS next to Connection Method. Select Pointing. Click Confirm.
Domain Connection and Purchase
Purchasing a domain from Namecheap involves choosing a paid Wix plan to connect the domain. Start by searching for the domain on Namecheap. Then, go to Domains in your Wix account.
The process of transferring a domain to Wix gives you more control. You can manage settings from within Wix, making it easy to add services.
To transfer a domain, unlock it in your current registrar first. Then go to Domains in Wix and select "Transfer domain from another registrar". Enter the auth code from your current registrar.
Connecting keeps the domain with your current registrar but points it to Wix. Transferring makes Wix the new host.
