Wig Caps and Hair Loss
If you have no hair loss, a wig cap is typically not necessary. Some people find that wearing a wig cap can make the wig fit more securely. To put a wig on without a cap, make sure your scalp is clean before putting the wig on.
Protection and Hair Growth
Wearing a wig does not stop hair growth. However, if the hair underneath your wig isn’t properly protected, damage can be caused, affecting growth.
Considerations for Wearing Wigs
For smaller heads, the cap may slip around under the wig, making it fall off. So wearing a wig without a cap may be better. Nylon caps can be scratchy, while cotton caps can dry your skin. In hot weather, wig caps increase heat considerably, risking damage to your hair and scalp.
Putting on a Wig without a Cap
Prepare your hair by braiding or twisting it. Slip the wig on like a bathing cap. Then style the wig. Wavy, curly styles, or short bobs help hide your hairline without a cap. Very straight styles may not lay as naturally.
Adhering the Wig
You can use tape or wig glue to adhere the wig to your hairline. This creates texture for the wig to grab onto, blending it more naturally. Be very gentle to avoid damaging your hairline.
