Mixing OxiClean and Vinegar
OxiClean and vinegar should not be mixed. Doing so makes them ineffective cleaners. Additionally, their combination creates peracetic acid, which irritates skin and eyes and causes respiratory issues. Use either product alone for cleaning.
Accidental Mixing and Solutions
Accidentally mixed vinegar and OxiClean in the washing machine? Immediately stop the machine and rinse clothes thoroughly with water. Run clothes through another wash cycle with just water. This removes the residual mixture.
How to Use Separately
Vinegar has antibacterial properties and can help loosen dirt so that it doesn’t stick to clothing, leaving clothes odorless after washing. For an OxiClean soak, follow the instructions:
- Mix 1 capful of OxiClean White Revive Liquid per gallon of warmest water the garment care label recommends.
Incompatibility with Other Products
It is also important to remember not to mix laundry detergent and vinegar as the neutral solution impedes washing. Detergents are alkaline while vinegar is acidic. However, you can use both separately in one wash.
Vinegar’s antibacterial properties help loosen dirt, and OxiClean’s hydrogen peroxide is effective in bleaching stains. Use them separately to avoid the harmful reactions that they can cause when combined.
