Depending upon the size of your birdhouse, drill 3 to 7 holes using a 1⁄4 or 1/8-inch spade bit just below the roofline on at least 2 walls of the birdhouse. Ensure cross ventilation to keep the birds safe. It’s important to note that ventilation holes also allow rainwater to enter, so making drainage holes on the bottom of the birdhouse floor is essential to prevent pooling and allow water to exit easily.
