Do G4S Carry Guns? Overview of G4S

G4S is the world’s largest security company by revenue. It operates in over 85 countries with over 533,000 employees. By 2012, it was the largest European and African private employer. In April 2021, Allied Universal purchased G4S.

G4S provides security personnel, monitoring equipment, response units and secure transportation. It also works with governments on security services.

In some regions, G4S security officers carry firearms for additional protection. However, private security cannot carry guns in the UK. It is against the law for them to carry other weapons too, including pepper spray and batons.

On average, G4S employees rate their company 3.7 out of 5, with security officers giving an average rating of 3.4. G4S pays for overtime at 1.5 times the regular rate. It provides armed security guards with handguns and non-lethal weapons like batons.

In 2012, a G4S guard killed 3 co-workers at a University of Alberta ATM. G4S later sold its armored car unit which required armed staff. Its screening process failed to identify the Orlando nightclub shooter who killed 49 people in 2016.

G4S salary averages KES 22,000 monthly in Kenya. This is 31% more than the KES 15,000 average security guard salary. G4S patrols Nigerian waters in fast-response boats with mounted machine guns operated by expatriates.

Most G4S employees are lowly guards, but a growing number are military specialists dispatched by the company into what are delicately known as “complex environments” to take on jobs that national armies lack the skill or the will to do.

G4S is a British multinational private security company headquartered in London, England. The company was set up in July 2004 when London-based Securicor amalgamated with Danish firm Group 4 Falck.

In 2006, 2007 and 2008, G4S was the subject of a global campaign by union workers alleging that its subsidiaries undermine labour and human rights standards.

The company has collected more than $6 billion from taxpayers through federal contracts since 2005, according to government data, and G4S has worked for the Army, Navy, Air Force, State Department, Drug Enforcement Administration and Internal Revenue Service.

With more than 625,000 employees, this listed security giant is the second-largest private employer in the world (behind Wal-Mart). While some of its business is focused on routine bank, prison and airport security, G4S also plays an important role in crisis-zones right around the world.

G4S has announced its commitment to provide at least 600 employees as members of the military reserve from 2017, making it one of the UK’s leading employers of armed forces reservists.

Another of eight mercenary companies that will replace the official US forces in Iraq is Triple Canopy, which has an army of about 1,800 soldiers – mainly from Uganda and Peru – and contracts worth up to $ 1.5 billion.

In 2008, G4S bought out another security company, Armorgroup, which was made up of 9000 guards who were responsible for protecting about a third of all non-military convoys in Iraq.

G4S is a private military company made up of 625,000+ employees. This company operates in bank security, prison security, and airport security, but most importantly, in crisis zones of the world.
