Automatic Assignment of Usernames
eBay, an ecommerce company established in 1995, automatically assigns usernames for users — usually long, indistinguishable combinations of numbers and letters. However, you can quickly change this display name, viewable to all trading partners, by going to the "My eBay" tab.
When you create an eBay account, the platform automatically assigns a username to you, a string of letters, numbers, and dashes. If you’re planning to use eBay for shopping, your username might not be very important. However, if you want to build your eBay profile as a seller, a solid username can make a significant difference.
Changing Your eBay Username
You can change the username from the account settings on the eBay website once every 30 days. Your new username automatically replaces your old username wherever it appears on eBay. All your account data, like the feedback score, will be transferred to the new username.
If you are a seller, avoid frequently changing the username of your eBay account. Make sure to choose the perfect name for your business and stick with it to maintain consistency for your customers.
Guest Shopping and Privacy on eBay
eBay allows anyone to shop without a username. However, there are limitations when buying as a guest. Furthermore, you do not have access to the ‘My eBay’ feature as a guest buyer.
To have your identity and bidding totally hidden, you will need to bid on only private auctions set up by the seller. eBay does camouflage your ID when bidding, offering a layer of privacy.
A distinctive eBay username can help protect you from phishing attempts and keep your information safe. It’s harder to guess a username unrelated to your real name or personal information. A unique username is also more challenging for scammers to spoof when attempting to create fake eBay pages or emails.
