Smoking hookah doesn’t aid weight loss. It has health risks like increased lung cancer chances. Smoking hookah is linked to greater chances of obesity and diabetes. The toxins in the smoke may stimulate an inflammatory response that causes tissues to become resistant to insulin. Hookah smoking may also be associated with other behaviors that lead to weight gain. Hookah is not healthier than cigarettes. Sitting for long durations smoking hookah while eating leads to weight gain.
Lack of Evidence for Weight Loss Benefits
There’s no evidence hookah causes weight loss. Its dangers are vast, making any weight loss irrelevant compared to the health implications. The “light-headed” feeling some associate with smoking hookah may actually result from oxygen deprivation in the brain.
Harmful Substances in Hookah Smoke
Hookah smoke contains the same cancer-causing chemicals as cigarettes, plus carbon monoxide, heavy metals, and other toxins from the burning charcoal. Hookah smokers inhale these substances and also risk infection. Just because hookah may seem more pleasant than cigarettes doesn’t make it better health-wise.
