Is Listening to Books Counted as Reading?
If they ONLY listen to books, then no. They probably listen because they don’t like to read. If they read normal books as well then yes, because they probably listen to fit more books into their life.
Listening is not “reading”. But if you mean reading as understanding a work, then yes it is possible. Comprehension and retention will be lower with audiobooks than text. If an audiobook is your only source I would doubt you have properly absorbed the book.
Effects and Benefits of Reading
The perception of literature has a beneficial effect on mental abilities, development of imagination, figurative thinking and strengthening of memory. Any reading process is useful for both children and adults.
Excessive reading might cause negative effects like eyesight-degrading, sore muscles, and adverse interpersonal behavior. Most negative effects can be prevented, rectified, or managed.
Is Reading Considered as Work?
Reading is an active process in which the reader constructs meaning from a text. We try to visualize the content maximum while reading something because the more we can visualize the text, the better we understand it properly. The work of this visualization is an active process and therefore reading is considered an active process.
