An archery range should start at 5 yards for younger people. As your skill improves, increase the distance. Most advanced archers can aim precisely up to 35 yards. Traditional bows are harder to shoot, so start closer, around 8-10 yards. Indoors is usually 18-25 meters while outdoors can be over 90 meters. The minimum space per archer is 80 cm. Make sure the target butt is bigger than the face so missed arrows land safely. Consider local laws, safety, accuracy, and enjoyment when planning. With proper site layout and precautions, archery is fun and safe.
The exclusion areas each side of the range must be kept clear from all obstacles which could obscure any potential danger. Outdoors, the spacing between the targets should be at least 8ft, allowing space for 2 archers to shoot comfortably side by side.

Determine how safe your range needs to be. You can take safety precautions such as building a high fence around the area or posting signs that ask participants to wear goggles. The amount of space required depends on the type of bow you shoot.
Leagues, lessons, and events can attract customers and increase sales. Ranges require research, time, and money to open. For an indoor archery range, a minimum of 30 feet by 50 feet is recommended, although 40 feet by 80 feet would be ideal. Choose a location that’s big enough for your target and allows plenty of clearance.
If you have 10-15ft of room, you can set up an archery target indoors. Ensure that nobody else is home and that pets are safely away from the shooting area. Hang signs to inform others of shooting activity and never place your target in front of a doorway.
Nothing beats the convenience of a backyard range with a safe backstop, open space, and a target. Follow safety precautions to ensure enjoyable practice.
Every discipline is welcome in the archery community. Effort and content policies are left to the voters. Please read the archery wiki for more information.
You’ll need 10 to 20 yards of clear space between you and your target. Beginner archers commonly start at 10 yards. Practice regularly to improve form and accuracy. Focus, relax, and maintain form post-release for best results.
