A Certificate of Legal Existence, also known as a Certificate of Good Standing, verifies that a business is registered in Connecticut. You can search for business entities registered in Connecticut on the Secretary of State’s website by entering the business name in the search bar and clicking search, which will display the status, filing number, address, and business name.

- The filing fee is $75.
Articles of Organization
A certificate of organization, also known as a “certificate of formation,” is the primary step in creating a CT LLC and contains the definition of the business. To get copies of articles of organization:
- Visit the Secretary of State’s website or complete a form for paper copies.
- Fax a request to the state at 860-509-6069.
- If you use the website, enter your company name in the search box.
- Payment can be made with a debit or credit card by entering your card details on the form.
Expedited Service and Delivery Options
To get a Certificate of Legal Existence or copies of articles of organization:
- Pay the fee online, by check, or money order to the Secretary of State.
- A physical signature is required on the request form.
- To have the certificate delivered to an alternate address, include those details.
- For expedited service, there is an additional $50 fee.
