Requirements for Obtaining a Cosmetology License in Florida
To get your cosmetology license in Florida, you must complete a 1,200-hour cosmetology program. You will need to graduate from cosmetology school, having completed 1200 hours of practical experience and pass two written examinations. You must also complete a 4-hour AIDS/HIV course. Once you’ve met all of these requirements, you will be issued with a license.
In Florida, you must renew your cosmetology license by the 31st of October, every other year. To receive your license, you will need to submit proof of graduation from cosmetology school.
Application Process and Examination Details
Before scheduling another exam, you must submit an application for a reexamination if you failed the first one. Visit Cosmetology – Apply For A License to submit a new application online or to get a retake application. Your original HIV/AIDS course completion certificate that you obtained from your school should be submitted.
To take the Cosmetology License Examination, you can apply with the Department of Business & Professional Regulations. Pearson Vue will contact you to schedule the cosmetology exam which is split into two portions: theory and clinical.
