Permanently deleting a domain is a process that cannot be reversed. To permanently delete a domain, you must first transfer your domain to an authorized registrar, and then contact the registrar to request cancellation. Once canceled, the domain will be immediately removed from the registry.

Deletion Steps
To delete a domain:
- Sign in to your domain registrar.
- Select the name of your domain.
- Click "Delete domain".
- Confirm your identity.
- Review the restrictions and confirm deletion.
After a grace period, typically 30 days, anyone can purchase your domain name.
Removing Domain from Web Hosting
- Log in to your hosting account.
- Identify the domain and select "Delete".
- Confirm deletion.
This will remove all files, databases, and emails associated with the domain.
Domain Removal Implications
To delete a domain, log in to the control panel. Open the More menu of the domain you want to delete, then click Delete. Click Delete Domain to permanently delete the domain.
It can take 15-30 minutes for Microsoft 365 to remove a domain. If there are references using the domain, it may take hours for the domain to be removed. Use PowerShell to query for users and move them. See Update-MgUser for help.

To delete a domain:

It takes 5 days to become available. You can turn off auto-renew to keep until expiration.
On the Domains page, select the domain and Remove.
Deregistering a Domain
To deregister a domain, you need to contact your domain registrar. Registrars have their own process, so check their documentation or support.
Follow these steps:
- Sign into your registrar account
- Select the domain name
- Click "Delete"
- Confirm identity
- Review then confirm deletion
It takes 15-30 minutes. References using the domain delays removal for hours. Query users with PowerShell and move them first.
After deleting a domain, you can restore it within 30 days. Active domains can’t be refunded or removed until expiration. Check when your domain expires under Domains.
