Obtaining a Washington State Business License
In the Business License panel, click the Print Business License link. Your Business License will appear in a new window. You can print from your web browser. The Department of Revenue in Washington state issues various types of licenses. Washington state requires most businesses to obtain a business license.
The cost of a business license in Washington state can vary depending on factors such as the type of business, the number of employees, and the gross revenue. In order to obtain a copy of your Washington state business license, you will need to contact the Business Licensing Service at the Washington State Department of Revenue.

Business License Application Process
Virtually all businesses in Washington need to obtain a Washington state business license. To get your license, complete the Washington state Business License Application and pay a $19 fee.
Independent contractors must register with the Department of Revenue unless they:
- Make less than $12,000 a year before expenses
- Do not make retail sales
- Are not required to pay or collect any taxes administered by the Department of Revenue
Obtaining a Duplicate Business License
To obtain a copy of your Washington state business license, you can visit the Washington State Department of Revenue’s website. Request a duplicate license online by following the instructions. Alternatively, contact the Department of Revenue’s office directly for assistance with obtaining a copy of your business license.

You can also complete a Duplicate Request Form for $6.60 to get a copy of your Basic Business License. An authorized officer must complete this form.
Finding Your UBI Number
A UBI (Unified Business Identifier) is a 16-digit number issued by Washington State Business License Services. The State requires businesses that meet a certain threshold to register the business and apply for a UBI.

In Washington, sole proprietorships and general partnerships do not need to file any formation documents, but to form a corporation or limited liability company you need to file a certificate of formation with the Washington Secretary of State.
