How to Make Small Glasses with Wire
You will need:
- Wire, 1 mm
- Wire cutters
- Thick marker
- Cut 18 inches of 18 gauge florist stem wire.
- Use round objects like thread spools or small jars to bend the wire into a circle.
- Connect the ends with more wire and glue. Glue the frame to a clear plastic sheet.
- Cut off any excess plastic when the glue dries.
- Gently push the back wire slightly through to the front if there’s a gap between the wires.
- Wrap yarn or string around the frames for decoration.
- Add lenses cut from clear plastic if desired.
- The wire glasses can be used for dolls, crochet projects, dioramas, and more. They add personality and fun to handmade items.
How to Pop Lenses Out of Wire Glasses
- Hold the lenses firmly but gently to avoid damage when popping them out from glasses.
- Soak tight frames in hot water to expand material and ease lens out.
- For metal frame glasses, locate screws near the nose bridge or bottom rim. Unscrew lenses and push them out from inside the glasses.
- For plastic frames, fill a bowl with hot water, soak glasses for a minute, dry, and then push lenses out from the concave side with thumb or cloth.
- Pressure by a steady hand is needed to pop the lenses out.
- When removing sunglass lenses, handle the frame gently. Press thumb into the corner or side of the lens near the nose bridge with slight pressure to pop the lens out easily.
- Don’t press too hard or lenses may break or fall out of frames.
- To put lenses in plastic frames, remove frames from warm water, push one lens in through the backside of the correct side of the frame.
