Cleaning Drywall Dust from Concrete Floors
Start by sweeping up excess particles with a broom. Next, use a wet/dry vac to vacuum remaining dust. For stubborn spots, mix warm water with mild dish soap and scrub with a sponge. Mop floor twice to remove all dust.
Water is best for dissolving drywall dust since it makes particles too heavy to float. Wear protective gear like a dust mask for safety when cleaning. Use manufacturer’s directions if using concrete cleaner or etching solution. Also rinse with clean water after using cleaners.
If dust gets into carpets, rent a carpet cleaner. Cleaning up drywall mud and dust from concrete is tedious but ensures a dust-free surface. Construction debris contains silica which can cause lung disease so completely removing dust is important.
Cleaning Other Surfaces
To clean other surfaces like walls, use a damp microfiber cloth or tack cloth. This lifts and traps dust effectively. You can also rub walls with dryer sheets to reduce static and lift dust. After cleaning, let surfaces dry fully before painting or priming so paint adheres properly.
Vacuums easily spread fine dust particles instead of removing them. Shop vacs with HEPA filters trap more dust if needed. But best practice is wet cleaning methods using water, mild cleaners, and scrub brushes as needed. Repeat the wet cleaning process until all visible dust and debris is gone.
