Board Member Roles and Responsibilities
- Founders often do not realize the importance of members on the board. The board is legally required, as nonprofits cannot be run by individuals. Members serve terms outlined in the bylaws and hold positions like Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary. Responsibilities are significant despite voluntary service.
Funding and Compensation
- Members generate funds for the organization either by asking for contributions from peers or by making contributions themselves. No regulations prohibit compensating board members. The board appoints staff who serve as non-voting advisors.
