History of Rita’s Italian Ice
Rita’s Italian Ice started out in the summer of 1984 when Bob Tumolo began selling Italian Ice from a small porch window in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. The business was named after Bob’s wife, Rita.
Growth and Expansion
By 1987, Bob and his brother John had opened three more Rita’s locations in the Philadelphia area to meet increasing demand. Soon, customers started approaching Bob, wanting a taste of Rita’s success. In 1989, Bob started franchising the business, leading to rapid growth.
Product Offerings
Rita’s offers classic fruit ices, gelati flavors made by blending fruit ice with soft serve, and custard flavors made with custard mix, milk, and egg yolks. Their products are generally made without dairy.
