Campground Site Size
The typical tent camping site is approximately 12-ft by 30-ft in size for vehicular parking with a 20-ft by 20-ft camp pad to the side but can be smaller if needed. This provides sufficient area for a vehicle, a tent, a table, and a grill and/or fire pit. A general rule of thumb is to have 10 sites per acre. Some municipalities will limit the number of sites between 10-15. When you decide how many sites to create, think about larger motorhomes and fifth wheels.
Campground Capacity
Urban campgrounds cannot have more than 12 RVs per acre, and rural parks cannot exceed five campsites per acre if they do not offer full-service hookups. 5-6 acres allows 45 campsites, 10 acres allows 80-100 campsites, and 20 acres allows 180 campsites.
