Chinese-owned companies comprise the fourth largest share of foreign-owned establishments in the U.S. with 20,452 establishments. Chinese investment reached a peak of $46.5 billion in 2016.
U.S.-China Trade and Business Ties
American businesses rely heavily on China. Boeing, Caterpillar, General Motors, Starbucks, Nike, and Ford have a strong presence there. In 2019, trade with China totaled $634.8 billion.
Farmland Ownership
Corporations own the majority of Chinese-owned U.S. farmland. This farmland ownership has expanded tenfold in less than a decade to 191,000 acres worth $1.9 billion.
As of March 2022, there were 261 Chinese companies listed in the US with a combined market value of $1.3 trillion. CVS Pharmacy is an American retail corporation not owned by China.
