Mount Everest has a long history, with many adventurous souls attempting to reach its summit. In the 1950s, there were only a few attempts each year. By the 1990s, attempts rose to several hundred per year. Over 310 climbers have died on Everest. In 2023, 17 deaths occurred, the most deadly season ever. Most Everest deaths happen in the Rainbow Valley region, due to weather, altitude sickness, lack of oxygen, and avalanches. Around four people die yearly, and many bodies remain on the slopes.
