Betty White was a trailblazing animal rights activist. She owned over two dozen animals over her lifetime. As far back as 1958, White had three canines in her care, Bandy, a Pekingese, Stormy, a St. Bernard, and Danny, a miniature poodle. She recently lost three pets, including a 16-and-a-half-year-old Shih Tzu, a 10-year-old golden, and an 11-year-old Himalayan kitty. Betty admitted to having owned 26 dogs at one time.
White donated to animal charities. She donated $3,000 to the LA Zoo. She is suspected to have left much of her $75 million estate to animal charities she supported.
The Golden Girls star died just before her 100th birthday. She was involved with the LA Zoo for years as a commissioner and board member. One of her longest associations was with the spcaLA since the 1960s. White wrote a biography about her life with animals because she loved them so much.
