Dale Chihuly is an American glass artist and entrepreneur from Tacoma, Washington. He started the glass program at the University of Washington and later studied glassblowing in Venice. Chihuly lost sight in one eye after a 1976 car crash. He is best known for large-scale glass sculptures and installations around the world, especially his Persian Series and chandeliers.
His glass pieces are shown in over 200 museums globally. Over a million people attended his exhibition at the Tower of David Museum in Jerusalem. In 1983 Chihuly returned to the Pacific Northwest where he founded the Pilchuck Glass School. He continues to innovate with paint, glass, plastic and neon. Chihuly’s work ranges in price from $200,000 to millions per commission. In 2015, a Chihuly chandelier sold at auction for $200,000. Chihuly has an estimated net worth of $10 million from decades of acclaimed artworks. He leads the art world in reimagining what glass can do.
