How much soap to use for window tint?
- Squeeze five to ten drops of baby shampoo or liquid soap into a one quart spray bottle. The quantity of soap needed depends on the lubrication required. Novice installers typically need more soap for slipperiness.
Can you use dish soap for window tint?
- Some tinters use dish soap mixed with water to coat the window. However, harsh chemicals may wear down the glue and prevent the film from sticking properly.
Using a Heat Gun
- The heat gun is not necessary, but will make the tint look smoother. If you decide to use a heat gun apply it to the outside so you don’t melt the film. Use your spray bottle full of hot water to spray on the glass to make it easier for your squeegee to smooth it out.
Window Tinting Cleaning Tips
- Use warm water with just a drop of dish soap works great. Use a soft microfiber cloth to gently wipe down the window in one direction. Use a Mr. Clean sponge and water to wipe the window and leave it sparkling clean.
Applying Window Tint
- Just mix water and a small amount of liquid soap in a clean spray bottle. Professionals recommend baby shampoo or dish soap without any kind of grease-cutting agent as this may interfere with film adhesion.
Rear Windows Tinting
- Rear windows have compound curvatures that render the application of window tinting film more difficult. Having a professional install window tint is easy and not very time consuming, but it can be an expensive undertaking. Thankfully, the process to tint windows at home is not terribly difficult, but there are some things to keep in mind along the way.
