The Meta, formerly known as Freelancer Agent Maine, was a rogue Freelancer agent. Maine became mute after a throat injury. He was given the A.I. Sigma to communicate. Manipulated by Sigma, Maine betrayed Project Freelancer, taking the name "Meta". His goals were to obtain enhancements to increase his power and reach "Metastability".
Maine was selected for the SPARTAN II program at age six. At fourteen, he began the augmentation process to become a Spartan. Maine has experience from countless battles. However, Freelancers can’t fully match the superhuman qualities of the SPARTAN-IIs.
The Counselor described Maine before he became the Meta. Maine always used armor enhancements when in danger. He has an excellent weaponry advantage. Maine’s experience is questionable as we don’t know his full military background. The enhancements may give Meta an edge over Master Chief.
